We all get stuck. Stuck in our careers. Stuck in bad relationships. Stuck with bad health. The question is not, will we get stuck, but rather, how will you respond when you do?

Travis Thomas offers a unique and powerful concept for responding to the adversity of life. For the last 17 years he has worked with world-class companies, leaders, and professional athletes to help them discover and live their brilliance.

His extensive career as an improvisational actor has taught him that the improvisational foundational mantra of “yes, and” just might be the key to getting unstuck in any situation. The stuck stops here!

Can you help me be more confident? As a performance coach who has worked with professional athletes and elite performers in all fields, this is a question I get asked often. I understand why it is so important. When I was younger I lacked confidence, and I saw it as the main factor that hindered my performance. So when someone asks me about improving confidence, I get it. But the real issue when it comes to performance is not confidence or a lack of it, but rather the fact we put so much importance on it to begin with. Instead, what if we nourished a mindset of courage? What if we focused on the behaviors and actions that drive performance, instead of getting distracted with our feelings?

I have worked with national team players in World Cup locker rooms, executives in Fortune 100 boardrooms, and young players struggling to get over their fears. Regardless of the level, it all comes back to the same starting point…courage.

This is a collection of my 20 years of team and one-on-one coaching, and what I have learned in helping people reach their potential. And, this is the book I needed when I was a child. I hope it helps each of us get over our fears by finding courage, regardless of our confidence.

“Hi Travis! You came to mind as I reflected on this past year. It was incredible getting to meet you and work with you directly when we did the “word association” exercise together at Workday’s virtual Pre-sales Summit in October. Your energy and outlook on the world are deeply inspiring and I was captivated the entire time. I’m so drawn to the psychology of the “yes, and” mindset in my work and in my personal life. There are very few people I’ve come across where I feel this passionate about the work you’re doing.”

– Jordan A. | Workday employee
